Toxic Ingredients In Skin Care Products That You Should Know
Do you know what’s in the ingredients found in your bottle of skin care product. Probably not - because we are convinced of the benefits promoted to us via advertisement or someone has recommended that it is indeed good for the skin. Some of the ingredients are synthetic and therefore not truly beneficial. Yet we are willing to overlook this fact at times, don’t we?
Here are some of the identified ingredients that are considered toxic. The list is not complete but hopefully it can help you to read the labels and thus make better decisions on what’s best for your skin.
- Parabens - They are thought to disrupt the body hormone estrogen and may cause cancer.
- Paraffin – A by product of petroleum that makes your skin like plastic, clogging pores and resulting in toxins accumulation than can lead to skin problems.
- Mineral oil - another hydrocarbon product derived from petroleum. It clogs the pores and promote acne. Paraffin and petrolatum are similar petroleum by products used that can harm you as they are carcinogenic in nature.
- Propylene glycol - It can cause dermatitis. brain, liver and kidney abnormalities as well as irritate cell growth.
- Butylated hydroxytoluene (BHT).- Carcinogenic in nature. Other names may include benzoic and benzyl
- Dioxane– A carcinogen that can affect the nasal region and liver.
- Sodium Laurel sulfate – Basically a detergent used for cleansers. This will give an indication how toxic it can be for your skin and hair often found in hair shampoo.
- Formaldehyde - Known to cause cancer. Produce irritations and allergic conditions on skin/body contact leading to headache and chronic fatigue.
- DEA, MEA and TEA – short terms often used in moisturizers to improve pH maintenance. Can cause severe allergic reactions due to carcinogenic effects.
The next time you make a purchase, stop and think again.The wiser decision is to go for skin care products with ingredients made from natural botanicals, organic fruits and plants, with names you recognize, and pronounce, and even eat.
